SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 8, 2022/ PRNewswire/ – ASEA, a global health leader in redox technology, recently commemorated the impact of its Advancing Life Foundation with a ceremony at the Inta-Kara Advancing Life Center in Ecuador. Established in 2015 with the purpose to provide opportunities for ASEA associates and employees to break cycles of poverty, abuse, and suffering in the world, the Foundation has impacted the lives of more than 3 million people across 22 countries worldwide since its founding.
In the middle of the cloud forest known as “the region of the forgotten,” much of the population in Apuela, Ecuador, live at the poverty line and depend solely on agriculture with little opportunity for education or work. The ASEA Advancing Life Foundation looked to strengthen economic opportunities in the region for those who live there and paired funding with thousands of on-site volunteer hours over nearly five years to establish and open the Inta-Kara Advancing Life Center in fall 2019.
In honor of the five-year anniversary of the campus groundbreaking, ASEA Founder and Chairman Tyler Norton, CEO Chuck Funke, and Vice President of Global Events & Recognition and Chair of the Advancing Life Foundation KimMarie Larsen visited the school and surrounding community for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Center. Despite pandemic precautions setting in almost immediately following the Center’s opening, its first two years of operation have produced 156 graduates through five accredited vocational courses, including culinary courses that began at the end of 2020 when the construction of kitchen facilities was completed. Many of the first students have already put their certifications to work to start local businesses.
“We are proud to power the potential of the Inta-Kara Advancing Life Center students to enrich their own lives and the lives of others in their community,” said Funke. “During this trip to commemorate the Center’s groundbreaking, we visited graduates’ homes and businesses and we have seen their lives transformed by education.”
Graduate Fabiola Quilumbaqui opened a restaurant to employ local women in need of work. Today, the restaurant hosts and caters to large events, bringing in revenue to the surrounding villages and providing for employees’ families. Fabiola Cuascota enrolled after losing her job and also completed her culinary education. She then started a restaurant out of her home. This home business provides the income she needs to provide for her children. A mother and daughter whose cleaning business suffered during the pandemic graduated together and opened a catering company. They now make meals for more than 350 children every day in local schools and daycares.
“This is growing beyond what we thought was possible and we know this is just the beginning,” said Funke.
