The ASEA Advancing Life Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with The Exodus Road, an organization dedicated to putting an end to human trafficking. Read about the details and learn how you can join the fight.
Who is The Exodus Road
The Exodus Road is a global nonprofit working vigilantly to eradicate modern-day slavery in the form of human trafficking. Partnering with local law enforcement and supporting communities to help protect minors and those at risk of being trafficked, Exodus Road is a beacon of hope for a cause where it’s so desperately needed. . Since its founding by Laura and Matt Parker, Exodus Road has assisted police “in the rescue of 2,600 survivors and the arrest of more than 1,300 offenders.”
In 2010, Matt and Laura Parker directed a children’s home for hill-tribe girls in Northern Thailand. It is there they came in close contact with marginalized youth—mostly young girls—who were targets for human trafficking. This motivated them to research the problem and eventually begin working with non government organizations (NGOs) and local law enforcement. Matt was deputized by local police and started working as an undercover investigator.
Today, Laura serves as the CEO of Exodus Road, while Matt works as Chief Strategy Consultant in the Global Program Department.
Fighting human trafficking in the Philippines
The Exodus Road has dedicated their time and resources to combating human trafficking in the Philippines, with the help of local law enforcement, since 2022. To date, 233 survivors have been successfully rescued and 69 perpetrators have been arrested.
“The systemic disruption of human trafficking crime requires immense collaboration and innovation,” says Buddy Bartido, The Exodus Road’s Philippines’ country director. “We are incredibly grateful to the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation for their commitment to, and support of, the work of The Exodus Road on behalf of exploited children and women in the Philippines. Their partnership will significantly empower our operations, resulting in freedom and restored hope for survivors, as well as justice for those engaged in this crime.”
Training, education, intervention, and aftercare
The Exodus Road has a multi-tiered approach to their fight against human trafficking. For a complex issue such as this one, it’s important to work carefully to ensure the safety and well-being of all victims and potential victims.
Training and education are provided to law enforcement, NGOs, students, communities, and parents with engaging learning modules and materials to help spot the signs and symptoms of trafficking.
To ensure proper intervention and prosecution of traffickers, The Exodus Road trains local investigators to work collaboratively with law enforcement to build effective cases and identify victims.
Aftercare is provided to victims, working with crisis care workers and social workers in affected territories, using a trauma-informed approach to ensure survivors are taken care of even after contract with traffickers.
