In June, 40 ASEA Brand Partners traveled to Beira, Mozambique, for a two-week expedition with Care for Life (CFL). Across four communities, we witnessed what happens when families are equipped with the knowledge, support, and confidence to build a better future—and saw firsthand how ASEA’s support is helping make that progress possible.
Seeing the Journey
Our expedition took us through four communities at different stages of CFL’s Family Preservation Program. In Mafambisse, families were preparing to graduate after three years of building skills, strengthening relationships, and developing the confidence to continue their progress independently. In Mutua 3, where the program is just beginning, we saw the journey ahead.

The contrast was powerful: it offered a glimpse of how gradual, family-led progress can transform an entire community.
Building for the Future
ASEA-funded projects were also moving forward. In Mutua 3, Brand Partners worked alongside local contractors to build the foundation and flooring of a new machessa—a gathering space that will support education, leadership meetings, literacy classes, and programs for children.

In Nhamayabwe, volunteers helped families transplant seedlings into their second-year gardens. The results were already visible. When CFL began working there, just 20% of families maintained home gardens. By the end of the first year, 99% were harvesting food from their own plots.

These home gardens, as well as the entire machessa, were fully-funded by your donations to the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation.
A Lasting Impact
The most meaningful part of the expedition was connecting with families and seeing their progress firsthand. CFL’s goal is ultimately to work itself out of a job—empowering communities to sustain their own success.

You can help make that lasting change possible. Donate today and help vulnerable families build a healthier, more secure future.
